Today we entered our first regatta at the invitation of VICSAIL. It was held out of Middle Harbour and was to raise money for the Giant Steps Foundation. The day was one to remember. For those that don't understand how these day's work they operate on a handicap system. That is, yachts start at different times with the aim of all boats finishing very close at the end. Usually the big cruising boats can't hold a candle to the light weight racers but when gusts to 30 knots sweep across the harbour the 23 tonners are in their element!
There were 3 Beneteau 57's in the race and placed 1st, 2nd and 4th. The Count took a respectful 2nd place (not bad for our first event) by a mere 30 seconds.
On dropping our guests ashore Greer and I decided to relax on a mooring in Athol Bay. Little did we know but it was the calm before the storm.
