Maiden Charter

Bill Drakopoulos and his family fought off many hopeful charterers to claim the first cruise of the Count.

A wonderful afternoon with much time and attention from Ship's Master - Alan Stannard - directing substitute helmsman Perry Drakopoulos.

The Count's red ensign flys proudly with Ripples - Chowder Bay seen in the distance.

Whilst you can't see everyone......there were 18 aboard for this cruise.

Good weather for ducks

The Count was out testing sail etc today. It seemed like a good idea at the time but the weather Gods weren't looking kindly on us......that being said it did stop raining at the right times when crucial adjustments and changes were necessary.

The ever optimistic Ian Short kept looking up suggesting that it would clear...after all, it was sunny in the Shire!

Big Steve Kemp just said bring it on baby....."this isn't rain.....you should see back home in Northern England!"
Steve was out with us for any "contingencies" for his baby as she was put through her paces and as always brought more than just technical "production " knowledge and was advising Shorty in no time!....It's a bit like watching the Odd Couple.

Charles from VICSAIL, who grabbed the opportunity for a sail, took up position under the bimini whilst Alan Stannard (Ships Master) had it all worked out.....he was on the helm, 100% dry.

Once the trial work was done, Alan and I headed out for a bit of a cruise of the Harbour. The Count tasted "Blue Water" for the first time as we stuck our nose out through the heads then back to protected waters off Manly Wharf.

On our return journey we did a "sail past" off Ripples at Chowder Bay where we saw Bill Drakopoulos braving the elements to salute us.

The new Henri Lloyd crew gear stood up to many hours in the rain (thanks Colin).....unfortunately I chose to where my old leather sailing shoes that wound up like little sponges on my feet by the end of the day.....mmm a change of clothes on The Count might be a good idea!

Stay tuned!

A little bit more

The Count is back at Rushcutters for a bit more of a spruce up and a couple of additions.

Final detailing below (you'll have to wait to see that when you jump aboard!), addition of life rafts and deck cleaning handled by Mike Cassidy (Sydney Boat Works) and additional lighting work by the team from YES.....and you'll just have to wait to see these too.

The Count is majestic by day but grand by night (so what's the secret?).

Short but sweet.....

A happy man,

Ian Short enjoying HIS day!

Without doubt....the Count's sails make an impact on Sydney Harbour

How good is this ? !

On the way home running only the headsail the Count cruised at 7.4 knots

Time to party!

In appreciation of all the work done, the Count decided to throw a party. OK....there are still some jobs to be completed but tomorrow Shorty takes us out for another test and then we continue to our new home at Sydney Wharf.

How's this ......18 guests on the aft deck......now there's a party!

Many thanks for all that have been involved in the project. Commissioning is often difficult but if you add Survey requirements you have a very big job.

I give you ....THE COUNT

Today's the day that all the team is thanked for being part of preparing the Count for her life in Australian waters.

All the crew involved in bringing Sydney's newest B57 will be at Rushcutters Bay today....4PM. Time to celebrate!!!

I'm sure you all agree She's a beautiful boat and if you struggle with a masculine name on a boat......there's always.......Make Her Count!

I do hope you get the chance to be a guest of the Count

Time to leave the nest

The time has come when the Count is to venture to a more permanent home.

Much is still to be "tidied" but with a number of new boats coming into the VICSAIL berths it's easier if the Count snuggles down in a new berth.

That Berth is
Berth 1,
Sydney Wharf,
Pirrama Rd,
Prymont, Sydney.

If you see us there you're welcome on board.

Enlighten me !

Down at the Count tonight,

Cam and AJ had spent the afternoon assessing deck lighting, completing remote sound system gear and hooking up the all important DVD equipment...of course!

Eagerly we awaited the assessment of the mast head lighting adjustments.....in a little bit.......naaah...out a little bit....ooh....aahh....yeah...OK....oohh...naah...yeah....OK!!!

All I can say......very sexy.....and that's a big mast to be sexy!

The real secret on lighting will be kept for those that visit the Count. She is a beautiful boat during the day but night brings a whole new dimension.

Making Short work

The Count ventures out for the first test sail. Similar to watching Steve Kemp nurse the Count into the water for the first time, Ian Short looks with admiration of his own handiwork.

Nice day for a sail but Shorty's immediately crawling over the Count looking for adjustments to be made to the sails.

With test complete we head back to Rushcutters Bay happy with the results.......looking forward to Saturday and another test.

Short in name only.....

A Beneteau 57 appears large enough when sitting at a pontoon but when sails are hoisted?

These sails may be Ian Short's prize creation but they're plenty tall enough! The moment the Count's genoa was fed and hoisted for the first time was extremely exciting.

The Count's sail number is SYD 02 making it very clear of where home really is.

Short on preparation

Shorty arrives to prepare the Count for some muscle.

The Team is in place, the sails are unpacked.....

Brendan Hunt feeds the genoa

Some final adjustments by Ian Short

The boom is prepared......Brendan and Mark Kennedy from VICSAIL.

Too Short!

Those that know me may think that this entry's title refers to me!....aahh, but no. Ian Short will be on board the Count today fitting the sails which means that our first sail powered voyage.

Look out for the Count going through her paces on the Harbour around the middle of the day today.

We'll be accompanied by the VISCAIL team ensuring all goes well.
